Cake Batter:
- 1⅓ cups all‑purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 large egg
- 1½ teaspoons vanilla extract
- ½ cup milk or buttermilk
Instructions
- Preheat oven: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9‑inch round pan.
- Prepare topping: Stir melted butter and brown sugar, spread in pan, and arrange banana slices over it.
- Prepare batter: Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt. Cream butter and sugar, then add egg, vanilla, and alternate dry ingredients and milk.
- Bake: Spread batter over bananas and bake for 35–45 minutes until golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
- Rest and serve: Let rest 5–10 minutes, then invert onto a plate and spoon any caramel back onto the cake.
