- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
- 1 tsp tomato paste
- 1 cup crushed tomatoes
- 1 tbsp red wine vinegar
- 1/2 tsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
Instructions
- Heat olive oil: In a small saucepan over medium heat, heat olive oil.
- Add onion and garlic: Sauté chopped onion until soft, then add minced garlic.
- Add spices: Stir in smoked paprika and cayenne pepper, cook until fragrant.
- Include tomato paste: Cook with tomato paste for a few minutes.
- Add remaining ingredients: Pour in crushed tomatoes, red wine vinegar, sugar, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10-15 minutes.
- Blend: Remove from heat, blend the sauce until smooth.
- Adjust and serve: Taste, adjust seasoning, and serve warm or at room temperature.
Notes
- For a milder version, reduce or omit the cayenne.
- This sauce can be made ahead and refrigerated for up to a week. It also freezes well.
