  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tsp tomato paste
  • 1 cup crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil: In a small saucepan over medium heat, heat olive oil.
  2. Add onion and garlic: Sauté chopped onion until soft, then add minced garlic.
  3. Add spices: Stir in smoked paprika and cayenne pepper, cook until fragrant.
  4. Include tomato paste: Cook with tomato paste for a few minutes.
  5. Add remaining ingredients: Pour in crushed tomatoes, red wine vinegar, sugar, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  6. Blend: Remove from heat, blend the sauce until smooth.
  7. Adjust and serve: Taste, adjust seasoning, and serve warm or at room temperature.

  • For a milder version, reduce or omit the cayenne.
