Description

A delightful homemade Brown Sugar Bubble Tea recipe featuring chewy tapioca pearls soaked in rich brown sugar syrup, combined with creamy milk and served over ice, perfect for a refreshing and sweet treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Bubble Tea Ingredients

  • 1 cup tapioca pearls
  • 1 cup whole milk (or almond/oat milk for dairy-free)
  • Ice cubes (as needed)

Brown Sugar Syrup

  • ½ cup brown sugar (dark for richer flavor)
  • ½ cup water

Instructions

  1. Cook Tapioca Pearls: Boil water in a pot over medium heat. Add tapioca pearls and cook according to package instructions until soft and chewy, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  2. Make Brown Sugar Syrup: In a separate saucepan, combine ½ cup water and ½ cup brown sugar over low heat. Stir continuously until the sugar completely dissolves and the mixture thickens slightly, about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Prepare Tapioca Pearls: Drain the cooked tapioca pearls and rinse them briefly under cold water to halt cooking and cool them down. Then, mix the pearls with 2 tablespoons of the brown sugar syrup to infuse sweetness and flavor.
  4. Assemble the Drink: In a tall glass, place the brown sugar-coated tapioca pearls at the bottom. Add ice cubes to your liking, then pour milk until the glass is about three-quarters full.
  5. Finish and Serve: Drizzle additional brown sugar syrup on top for visual appeal and extra sweetness. Stir gently before enjoying your bubble tea with a thick straw to savor the tapioca pearls.

Notes

  • Use dark brown sugar for a richer molasses flavor in the syrup.
  • Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less brown sugar syrup according to preference.
  • You can substitute whole milk with almond or oat milk for a dairy-free version.
  • Serve immediately after assembling to enjoy the best texture of tapioca pearls.
  • For a firmer texture, slightly undercook the tapioca pearls then soak them in syrup.
