Description

These Cheese-Loaded Carne Asada Tacos are a delicious twist on traditional street tacos, filled with flavorful marinated steak, melted cheese, and fresh toppings. Perfect for a fun and satisfying meal!

Ingredients

Scale

Marinated Steak:

  • 1½ pounds flank or skirt steak
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • juice of 2 limes
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Tacos:

  • 8 small flour or corn tortillas
  • 1½ cups shredded Mexican cheese blend or cheddar jack
  • ½ cup diced white onion
  • ½ cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • lime wedges for serving
  • sour cream or guacamole (optional)

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Steak: Combine olive oil, lime juice, orange juice, garlic, cumin, chili powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Add steak, marinate for 1-8 hours.
  2. Cook the Steak: Grill or cook in a skillet until desired doneness. Let rest, then slice thinly against the grain.
  3. Prepare the Tacos: Warm tortillas, sprinkle cheese on one half, add carne asada, onion, and cilantro. Fold and cook to melt cheese.
  4. Serve: Serve hot with lime wedges and optional sour cream or guacamole.

Notes

  • For maximum flavor, grill the steak over charcoal.
  • Swap cheese for queso fresco or pepper jack for variation.
  • Try with pickled red onions or a drizzle of hot sauce.
