- ½ cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1 ½ cups finely diced apples (such as Honeycrisp, Gala, or Granny Smith)
For the Glaze:
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- ⅓ cup apple cider or apple juice (plus 1–2 tbsp more as needed for consistency)
Instructions
- Preheat oven: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Prepare batter: Whisk together dry ingredients in a medium bowl. In a separate bowl, combine melted butter and sugar, then add egg, vanilla, and applesauce. Fold wet ingredients into dry, then mix in diced apples.
- Bake: Drop batter onto baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes until golden brown.
- Make glaze: Whisk together powdered sugar and apple cider.
- Glaze fritters: Remove fritters from oven, brush with glaze, and broil for 2–4 minutes until bubbly.
- Cool and serve: Apply a second coat of glaze if desired, then cool for 15 minutes before serving.
Notes
- You can swap apple cider with milk for a milder glaze.
- For deeper flavor, use brown sugar instead of white sugar in the batter.
