Description

These Crispy Cauliflower Buffalo Wings offer a delicious, healthier alternative to traditional chicken wings. Coated in a flavorful batter and smothered in spicy buffalo sauce, these wings are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Perfect as a snack or appetizer, they can be baked or air-fried to suit your preference.

Ingredients

Scale

Cauliflower and Batter

  • 1 large head of cauliflower
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free alternative)
  • 1 cup milk (or plant-based milk for vegan option)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Sauce

  • 1/2 cup buffalo sauce
  • 2 tbsp melted butter (or vegan butter)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven or Air Fryer: Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) or prepare your air fryer for cooking.
  2. Prepare Cauliflower: Cut the cauliflower into bite-sized florets for easy coating and even cooking.
  3. Make Batter: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, milk, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper to create the batter.
  4. Coat Cauliflower: Dip each cauliflower floret into the batter, ensuring it’s thoroughly coated for maximum crispiness.
  5. Cook Cauliflower: If baking, place the battered florets on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through. If air frying, place a single layer of battered florets in the air fryer basket and cook at 400°F (200°C) for 12-15 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through cooking.
  6. Prepare Buffalo Sauce: While cauliflower cooks, mix buffalo sauce with melted butter in a large bowl until combined.
  7. Toss Cauliflower in Sauce: Once cauliflower is golden and crispy, toss the florets in the buffalo sauce mixture to coat evenly.
  8. Set the Sauce: Return the sauced cauliflower to the oven or air fryer for an additional 5 minutes to allow the sauce to set and intensify flavor.

Notes

  • You can use gluten-free flour and plant-based milk to make this recipe vegan and gluten-free.
  • Adjust the amount of buffalo sauce according to your spice preference.
  • For extra crispiness, spray the coated florets lightly with cooking oil before baking or air frying.
  • Serve with celery sticks and blue cheese or ranch dip for an authentic buffalo wing experience.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or air fryer to maintain crispness.
