Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients:
- 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Dry Ingredients:
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup Dutch-processed cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Optional:
- 1 cup semisweet or dark chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Cream butter and sugars: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, and mix until well combined.
- Combine dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, Dutch cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until combined. Fold in chocolate chips if using.
- Form dough balls: Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll into balls. Place them on the prepared baking sheets about 2 inches apart.
- Bake: Bake for 8–10 minutes, or until the edges are set but the centers still look slightly soft. Let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- For extra flavor, sprinkle a pinch of flaky sea salt on top before baking.
- These cookies are rich, chewy, and freeze beautifully for future cravings.
