Dough Ingredients
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) instant yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup warm milk (110°F/43°C)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
Filling Ingredients
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
Glaze Ingredients
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2-3 tablespoons milk
Instructions
- Prepare the dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, granulated sugar, instant yeast, and salt. Add the warm milk, melted butter, and egg, mixing until smooth. Gradually add the remaining flour until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Place the dough into a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rest for 10 minutes.
- Make the filling: In a small bowl, mix together the softened butter, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon until well combined and spreadable.
- Shape the rolls: Roll the dough out into a 12×15-inch rectangle. Spread the cinnamon filling evenly over the surface of the dough. Starting at one end, roll the dough tightly into a log and cut into 12 equal rolls.
- Proof and bake: Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let them rise for about 15 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
- Prepare the glaze: While the rolls bake, mix the softened cream cheese, softened butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and 2-3 tablespoons of milk until the glaze is smooth and creamy.
- Glaze and serve: Drizzle the cream cheese glaze over the warm cinnamon rolls right after they come out of the oven. Serve immediately and enjoy the ooey gooey goodness.
Notes
- Use warm milk at about 110°F (43°C) to activate the yeast without killing it.
- Do not overfill the rolls to avoid spilling during baking.
- If the dough is sticky, add a little more flour, but avoid adding too much to keep rolls soft.
- For best flavor, allow the rolls to cool slightly before glazing.
- For a dairy-free version, substitute cream cheese and butter with plant-based alternatives.
