Description

A hearty and traditional Full Irish Breakfast featuring classic staples like sausages, bacon, black pudding, eggs, baked beans, mushrooms, tomatoes, and soda bread, all cooked on the stovetop for a savory morning feast.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat and Eggs

  • 4 large eggs
  • 4 Irish pork sausages
  • 4 slices Irish bacon or back bacon
  • 4 slices black pudding

Vegetables and Sides

  • 1 cup baked beans in tomato sauce
  • 2 medium tomatoes, halved
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 4 slices soda bread or thick white bread
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook the sausages: Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the sausages. Cook them slowly, turning often, for 12 to 15 minutes until browned and cooked through.
  2. Cook the bacon: In the same pan, add the Irish bacon slices and cook for about 3 to 4 minutes per side until crisp around the edges.
  3. Cook the black pudding: Add the black pudding slices to the pan and cook for about 2 minutes per side until heated through and slightly crisp.
  4. Sauté the mushrooms: In another section of the pan, melt the butter and sauté the sliced mushrooms for about 5 minutes until tender.
  5. Cook the tomatoes: Place the tomato halves cut side down in the pan and cook for 3 to 4 minutes until softened and lightly charred.
  6. Warm the baked beans: Heat the baked beans in a small saucepan over low heat until warmed through.
  7. Fry the eggs: In a separate pan, fry the eggs in a little butter to your preferred doneness. Season with salt and black pepper.
  8. Toast the bread: Toast the soda bread or thick white bread slices until golden brown.
  9. Serve: Arrange everything hot on a large plate and serve with the toast on the side.

Notes

  • Traditional Irish breakfasts often include both black pudding and Irish bacon, which differs in flavor and cut from American streaky bacon.
  • White pudding can also be added as an extra option for variety.
  • This meal is traditionally served with strong Irish tea and buttered toast.
