  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

Wet Ingredients:

  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional:

  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan or a 10-inch bundt pan.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg.
  3. Prepare Wet Mix: In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar. Add applesauce, egg, and vanilla extract; mix until smooth.

  6. Cool and Serve: Cool before slicing. Serve plain, dusted with powdered sugar, or topped with cream cheese frosting.

Notes

  • This cake tastes even better the next day as the flavors meld.
  • You can substitute half of the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour for a heartier texture.
