Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan or a 10-inch bundt pan.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg.
- Prepare Wet Mix: In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar. Add applesauce, egg, and vanilla extract; mix until smooth.
- Combine Mixtures: Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture; stir just until combined. Fold in raisins and nuts if desired.
- Bake: Pour batter into pan, spread evenly. Bake for 35–40 minutes (9×13 pan) or 45–50 minutes (bundt pan) until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool and Serve: Cool before slicing. Serve plain, dusted with powdered sugar, or topped with cream cheese frosting.

- You can substitute half of the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour for a heartier texture.
