Description

Ingredients

Dough:

1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F), 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast, 1 teaspoon granulated sugar, 4 cups all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon salt

Water Bath:

2/3 cup baking soda

Egg Wash:

1 large egg yolk beaten with 1 tablespoon water

Topping:

coarse sea salt for topping


Instructions

  1. Prepare Dough: In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Add flour and salt, mix until dough forms. Knead on floured surface for 5-7 minutes. Let rise for 1 hour.
  2. Preheat & Boil: Preheat oven to 450°F. Boil water and baking soda in a pot.
  3. Shape & Bake: Divide dough, roll into ropes, twist into pretzels. Boil in baking soda bath, then bake at 450°F for 12-15 minutes.
  4. Cool & Serve: Let pretzels cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For a sweet twist, skip the salt and brush with melted butter after baking, then sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
