- 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 eggs (or flax eggs for vegan)
Jalapeño-Cheese Filling:
- 2 fresh jalapeños, seeded and diced
- 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking)
Instructions
- Main Burger Preparation: In a large bowl, mash black beans until mostly smooth. Stir in breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, smoked paprika, cumin, salt, pepper, and eggs. Mix until well combined.
- Jalapeño-Cheese Filling: In a small bowl, mix jalapeños, cream cheese, and cheddar until smooth.
- Form Patties: Divide bean mixture into 8 equal portions. Flatten each portion, place about 1 tablespoon of jalapeño-cheese filling in the center, then fold bean mixture over filling, sealing edges to form patties.
- Cooking: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook burgers for 4 to 5 minutes per side, until golden and heated through.
- Serve: Serve on buns with your favorite toppings.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, keep some jalapeño seeds in the filling or add hot sauce.
- These patties can be made ahead and frozen before cooking—just thaw slightly before pan-frying.
