Ingredients
Scale
Spaghetti
- 200g spaghetti
Sauce
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 400g canned tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Topping
- Parmesan cheese, grated (to taste)
Instructions
- Cook spaghetti: Boil a large pot of salted water and cook the spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente, usually around 8-10 minutes. Drain the pasta and set aside.
- Heat olive oil: In a pan over medium heat, warm the olive oil until shimmering to prepare for sautéing the garlic.
- Sauté garlic: Add the minced garlic to the pan and cook it until fragrant and lightly golden, about 1-2 minutes, being careful not to burn it.
- Add tomatoes and seasonings: Stir in the canned tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to combine all the flavors.
- Simmer sauce: Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer gently for 15 minutes to thicken and develop flavor, stirring occasionally.
- Toss spaghetti with sauce: Add the drained spaghetti into the pan with the sauce and toss thoroughly so every strand is coated with the rich tomato mixture.
- Serve: Plate the spaghetti and generously top with freshly grated Parmesan cheese. Serve immediately while hot.
Notes
- Use high-quality canned tomatoes for the best flavor.
- Adjust salt and pepper according to your taste preference.
- For a richer sauce, add a splash of red wine while simmering.
- Fresh basil can be added as a garnish for extra aroma.
- To make it vegetarian, ensure your Parmesan cheese is labeled vegetarian-friendly or use a plant-based alternative.
- Reserve some pasta water before draining to adjust sauce consistency if needed.
