Description

Sloppy Joe French Bread Pizza Slices combine the classic sloppy joe flavors with the irresistible appeal of pizza on a crispy French bread base. This easy weeknight dinner features a savory ground beef mixture layered on toasted French bread, topped with melted cheddar cheese, and optionally garnished with pickles for a tangy crunch.

Ingredients

Scale

Base

  • 1 loaf French bread, split lengthwise
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Sloppy Joe Mixture

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Toppings

  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup sliced pickles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for baking the pizza slices.
  2. Cook the beef mixture: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and finely chopped onion, cooking until the beef is browned and fully cooked. Drain any excess grease from the pan.
  3. Add flavorings: Stir in minced garlic, ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Simmer the mixture for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally until it thickens.
  4. Prepare the bread: Slice the French bread loaf in half lengthwise and place both halves cut side up on a baking sheet.
  5. Assemble the pizza slices: Evenly spread the sloppy joe mixture over each half of the French bread. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese generously over the top.
  6. Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Serve: Remove from the oven. Slice into individual pieces and optionally top with sliced pickles. Serve warm for best flavor.

Notes

  • For a lighter option, substitute ground turkey or chicken for the beef.
  • Add sliced bell peppers or jalapeños to the sloppy joe mixture to boost flavor and add some heat.
  • Store any leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven to maintain crispness.
