Description

Tender and flavorful slow cooker barbecue ribs infused with the sweetness of Coca-Cola, finished under the broiler for a caramelized, smoky glaze. This easy recipe guarantees fall-off-the-bone ribs with minimal effort, perfect for a comforting American-style main course.

Ingredients

Scale

Ribs and Seasoning

  • 2-3 pounds pork baby back ribs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

Liquids and Sauce

  • 1 can (12 oz) Coca-Cola or other cola
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce

Garnish

  • Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ribs: Remove the silver membrane from the back of the ribs and pat them dry with paper towels. This step ensures tenderness and better seasoning absorption.
  2. Season: Season both sides of the ribs evenly with salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and if using, chili powder and cayenne pepper for extra heat and depth of flavor.
  3. Place in Slow Cooker: Arrange the ribs in the slow cooker, standing them on their side if necessary to fit. Pour the Coca-Cola and Worcestershire sauce over the ribs to infuse moisture and sweetness during cooking.
  4. Slow Cook: Cover and cook on low heat for 6 to 7 hours, or alternatively, on high heat for 3 to 4 hours, until the ribs are tender and cooked through.
  5. Preheat Broiler: When ribs are done, preheat your oven’s broiler to high to prepare for finishing the ribs with a caramelized glaze.
  6. Broil with Barbecue Sauce: Carefully remove the ribs from the slow cooker and place them on a foil-lined baking sheet. Generously brush the ribs with barbecue sauce and broil for 3 to 5 minutes, watching closely until the sauce caramelizes and develops slight charring.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Remove from oven, sprinkle with freshly chopped parsley for color and freshness, and serve the ribs hot with extra barbecue sauce on the side if desired.

Notes

  • For enhanced flavor, marinate the ribs in the spice mix and cola overnight before slow cooking.
  • Diet cola can be used as a substitute, but regular cola contributes additional sweetness and helps tenderize the meat effectively.
  • Serve with extra barbecue sauce on the side for dipping and added flavor.
