Description

Delight in these Spiced Indian Chicken Nuggets, a flavorful twist on classic nuggets infused with aromatic Indian spices like garam masala, turmeric, and chili powder. Marinated in yogurt and spices, then coated and deep-fried to a golden crisp, these nuggets make a perfect appetizer or snack with your favorite dipping sauce.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken Marinade

  • 1 lb chicken breast, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 2 tablespoons yogurt
  • 2 teaspoons garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • ½ teaspoon ground pepper

Coating

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • Oil for deep frying (enough to submerge nuggets)

Instructions

  1. Marinate the chicken: Cut the chicken breast into 1-inch pieces. In a bowl, combine chicken with yogurt, minced garlic, garam masala, chili powder, turmeric, salt, and ground pepper. Mix well to coat all pieces evenly. Cover and let it marinate for 10-15 minutes to allow the flavors to infuse.
  2. Prepare the coating: In a shallow dish, mix the all-purpose flour with ½ teaspoon salt. Beat the egg in a separate bowl. Place bread crumbs in a third dish for easy access during coating.
  3. Coat the chicken: Take each marinated chicken piece and first dredge it in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess. Next, dip it into the beaten egg, and finally, coat thoroughly with bread crumbs. Arrange the coated nuggets on a tray and refrigerate for 10 minutes to firm up the coating.
  4. Heat the oil: Pour enough oil into a deep frying pan or pot to submerge the nuggets and heat over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test by dropping a small piece of bread into the oil; it should sizzle and turn golden quickly.
  5. Fry the nuggets: Carefully add the coated chicken pieces in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry them until golden brown and cooked through, approximately 4-6 minutes per batch, turning occasionally for even cooking.
  6. Drain and serve: Remove the nuggets using a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Adjust the chili powder to your preferred spice level.
  • For extra crispiness, double dip in egg and bread crumbs.
  • Ensure oil is hot enough before frying to prevent soggy nuggets.
  • Can be served with chutney, ketchup, or yogurt-based dips.
  • Use skinless, boneless chicken breasts for best results.
