Description

Ingredients
Scale
Tuna Mixture
- 1 can Canned Tuna, drained
- 2 tablespoons Mayonnaise (or Greek yogurt for a lighter option)
- 1 tablespoon Dijon Mustard
- 2 stalks Celery, finely chopped
- Salt, to taste
- Black Pepper, to taste
Sandwich
- 4 slices Bread (Sourdough or Whole Grain preferred)
- 1 cup Sharp Cheddar Cheese, grated
- Butter, for spreading
Instructions
- Drain and Flake Tuna: Drain the canned tuna thoroughly to remove any excess liquid. Break the tuna apart and place it into a mixing bowl to prepare for mixing.
- Mix Ingredients: Add mayonnaise or Greek yogurt, Dijon mustard, finely chopped celery, salt, and pepper to the bowl with the tuna. Stir until all ingredients are well combined forming a creamy tuna salad.
- Prepare Bread: Butter one side of each slice of bread evenly. This will help achieve a golden, crispy crust when grilled.
- Assemble Sandwiches: Spread the tuna mixture onto the unbuttered side of two slices of bread. Sprinkle the grated cheddar cheese evenly over the tuna. Top each with the remaining slices of bread, buttered side facing outwards.
- Grill Sandwiches: Heat a skillet over medium heat. Once hot, place the sandwiches in the skillet and cook them for about 3 minutes per side or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
- Slice and Serve: Remove the sandwiches from the skillet. Slice diagonally and serve immediately while the cheese is warm and gooey for the perfect tuna melt experience.
Notes
- Use Greek yogurt instead of mayonnaise for a healthier, lower-fat option.
- Choose hearty bread like sourdough or whole grain to hold up well when grilled.
- Adjust seasoning to taste, adding more mustard or celery if preferred.
- Serve with a side salad or pickle for a complete meal.
- Can also be made under a broiler, but skillet grilling gives better crispiness.
