Cake:

- 1 cup whole milk
- ½ cup sour cream
Frosting:
- 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Cream butter and sugar: In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla bean paste.
- Combine wet and dry: Combine the milk and sour cream in a small bowl. Add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture in three additions, alternating with the milk mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
- Bake: Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and smooth the tops. Bake for 25–28 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool and frost: Let cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely. For the frosting, beat the butter until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar, then mix in the heavy cream, vanilla, and salt. Beat until light and fluffy. Frost the cooled cake layers and decorate as desired.
