Description

This Brown Sugar Milk Boba recipe combines chewy tapioca pearls coated in rich brown sugar syrup with creamy milk to create a delicious and comforting drink. Perfect for boba tea lovers seeking a homemade treat, it’s simple to prepare in just 20 minutes and yields two servings of a sweet, velvety beverage.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Tapioca Pearls

  • 1 cup tapioca pearls (boba)
  • 1/2 cup water (for cooking boba)

For the Brown Sugar Syrup

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup water (for syrup)

For the Drink

  • 2 cups milk
  • Ice cubes (optional)
  • Additional brown sugar (for drizzling, optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Tapioca Pearls: Bring 1/2 cup of water to a boil in a saucepan. Add the tapioca pearls and cook according to the package instructions, usually about 5-10 minutes, until they become soft and chewy.
  2. Make the Brown Sugar Syrup: In a separate saucepan, combine 1/2 cup of brown sugar with 1 cup of water. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves completely and the mixture thickens slightly into a syrup.
  3. Coat the Cooked Boba: Drain the tapioca pearls and rinse them under cold water to stop the cooking process. Mix the pearls with a few tablespoons of the brown sugar syrup to coat them evenly and add sweetness.
  4. Assemble the Drink: Pour 2 cups of milk into a tall glass. Add the brown sugar-coated tapioca pearls, and if you like, add ice cubes to chill. Drizzle additional brown sugar syrup over the top for extra sweetness and flavor.

Notes

  • For best results, serve the drink immediately after preparation to enjoy the perfect texture of the boba.
  • You can use any type of milk such as whole, skim, or plant-based milk alternatives depending on your preference.
  • If you like a stronger brown sugar flavor, increase the amount of syrup used to coat the boba and for drizzling.
  • Adjust the sweetness by varying the amount of brown sugar syrup added to the milk.
