Description

Easy Hibachi Steak with Fried Rice is a flavorful and quick Japanese-inspired dish featuring tender NY Strip steak marinated in a savory sauce, paired with homemade fried rice loaded with vegetables, eggs, and aromatic seasonings. Perfect for a satisfying weeknight dinner, this recipe brings restaurant-style hibachi flavors to your home kitchen using stovetop cooking techniques.

Ingredients

Scale

Steak Marinade

  • 1½ lbs NY Strip Steak
  • 2 tbsp low sodium soy sauce (or tamari)
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil (or olive oil)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp ginger paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp honey (optional)

Fried Rice

  • 6 cups cooked and cooled Basmati rice
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil (or olive oil)
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 eggs
  • 12 oz bag frozen vegetables, thawed
  • ¼ cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp ginger paste
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds

Hibachi Sauce

  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Sriracha
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare Steak Marinade: In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, ginger paste, Worcestershire sauce, and honey until combined to create the hibachi steak marinade.
  2. Marinate the Steak: Place the NY Strip steak in a shallow dish or ziplock bag and pour the marinade over it. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  3. Cook the Steak: Heat a grill, griddle, or skillet to high heat. Cook the marinated steak to your desired doneness, typically 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare depending on thickness. Remove from heat and let rest before slicing.
  4. Start Fried Rice: Heat a griddle or two pans on high for 4 minutes. Add sesame oil, then add the cooked rice, diced onion, and cracked eggs. Cook while tossing and mixing for 3 minutes, allowing the eggs to scramble and combine thoroughly.
  5. Add Vegetables and Seasoning: Stir in the thawed vegetables, then add soy sauce, butter, minced garlic, ginger paste, and sesame seeds. Continue cooking and stirring for 5 minutes, until a golden brown crust forms on the rice and vegetables are heated through.
  6. Mix Hibachi Sauce: In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, ketchup, Sriracha, and salt to taste. Mix well and serve as a dipping sauce for the steak and fried rice.
  7. Serve: Slice the rested steak thinly and plate alongside the golden fried rice. Drizzle with the homemade hibachi sauce or serve it on the side for dipping.

Notes

  • Use cold, day-old rice for best texture in fried rice to prevent mushiness.
  • Feel free to customize frozen vegetables with fresh options like bell peppers or mushrooms.
  • Adjust the amount of honey or Sriracha for sweetness or spiciness based on preference.
  • Let the steak rest after cooking to keep it juicy and tender.
  • This recipe works well with other steak cuts like ribeye or sirloin.
